A quick internet search for typing jobs from home results in hundreds of thousands of results. However, despite the seeming abundance of typing jobs from home many of these turn out to be a scam where the employee has to pay a fee to begin work. More often than not the work, and wages, never materialise. However, there are typing jobs offered by local and national governments which can be carried out from the comfort of your own home. People are attracted to the idea of carrying out relatively simple tasks without having to travel to an office or work to certain timescales. Employees are protected by a legitimate employer and therefore such jobs are highly sort after. Government departments in the United Kingdom do employee typists to work from home. The work is largely transcription based. The work may consist of transcriptions of interviews or hearings. Whilst these jobs seem easy many employers will expect you to have a qualification in short hand or typing. Councils tend to outsource such work to ease the work load on their administration teams. As transcription tends to be lengthy work the jobs are often paid by task rather than by hour. The employer may pay £20 for a transcription job which sounds like a good deal but if the job takes 4 hours the employee is, in effect, earning under the minimum wage. Ultimately, if working from home employees were not paid less than Council administration staff the Council would make their own office staff complete the work.

There is not an abundance of government home typing jobs available in the UK but they do exist. Governments and local councils tend to advertise their vacancies on their own websites rather than pay for advertising so it is always best to start there. Contacting the authority directly is another good option as they are likely to keep your name on file and contact you if any typing jobs do come up.

Government home typing jobs are so sort after because people trust the authority to provide the work and pay wages. The opportunity exists for trained typists to earn money without having to leave their own home. However, they are not get rich quick schemes and work is not always readily available. Such jobs may help provide an additional income from time to time but they should not be relied upon as a permanent position.
