What Skills Will I Require?
Naturally you will need to have excellent keyboard skills and most employers would expect you to be able to type at least 50 words per minute but you will also need sound computer skills and have a good knowledge of the workings of relevant computer software. The salary for a typing or secretarial position can vary depending on the company you are employed by, whether you work full or part time and whether you work in-house or from home but it is possible to find secretarial jobs that pay around £27,000 to £29,000 per annum or around £13 to £14.50 per hour. Beware of Scams
Some Companies will offer to find you a job. Once you have paid a fee, they will send you a list of companies, most of which will not even have current jobs. This will cost you precious time making lots of phone calls to companies that do not need you.
However, there are some legitimate typing jobs sites out there. These legitimate sites do not usually involve ad typing but instead are data entry jobs. Often they will require you to have some sort of administrative experience. There are a handful of these job sites but they do not normally charge you anything, with the exception of E-Lance. These reputable job boards will ensure that the jobs posted are not scams and have customer service procedures for reporting of any scams.
The basic steps you should take to steer clear of scams are to avoid sites which require you to pay a fee to find a job. Avoid anything which makes bold and unrealistic claims. Finally, you can check the legitimacy of a website by checking if has privacy policies, if it is a registered company or if it has a lot of complaints filed against it. If you think that you are going to be scammed, it is probably wise to trust your instincts.
